Epigram

As Quentin Crisp once wrote and I agree:

“THERE  ARE  THREE  REASONS  FOR  BECOMING  A  WRITER.  THE  FIRST  IS  THAT  YOU  NEED  THE  MONEY;  THE  SECOND,  THAT  YOU  HAVE SOMETHING  TO  SAY  THAT  YOU  THINK  THE  WORLD  SHOULD  KNOW;  AND  THE  THIRD  IS  THAT  YOU  CAN’T  THINK  WHAT  TO  DO  WITH  THE LONG  WINTER  EVENINGS.”

Quentin was such a wonderful character, wasn’t he? I had the pleasure of seeing him perform at the Theatre Royal in Bath more years ago than I care to recall. Even though every one of his stories had oft been told before, he was such a delightful person and wonderful storyteller that I was convulsed with tears of laughter. He also had a very wonderful way of putting down anyone foolish enough to heckle him.
